Installation Steps for Magnetically Sealed Lid

  1. Check attic floor for a flat surface 4 to 6 inches around the opening.
  2. Add wood if needed and caulk cracks between pieces.
  3. Remove Lid from box and place the two pieces together using caulking to connect and seal the two pieces to make the Lid ready to install.
  4. Lay out the Gasket and align it around the perimeter of the Lid.
  5. Begin at one corner and press the gasket down into the groove in the Therm-a-lid. Continue all the way around the perimeter of the Lid.
  6. Take the Lid with the metal strips up into the attic and align the Lid over the door opening.  Check to see that the stairs fold up without hitting the Lid.
  7. Mark the location and remove the lid. Apply caulking to the metal strips and press them down aligned with the marks you made on the floor.
  8. While standing on the stairway, reposition the Lid back to the location and lower it down over the opening. Be careful to set the Lid down in the right location.
  9. Important!  Allow caulking to dry completely before trying to remove Lid.
